In January 2020, I began a podcast called “What’s Stopping You? with Kelsey Jones.” It was a decision that took months of planning to finally get off the ground, but has been an incredible journey thus far. The podcast, as the name implies, is all about the power to control your own life, becoming your best self, and how to make sure you’re not stopping yourself from achieving the goals you set out to conquer.
Not only has this podcast given me an avenue and inspire other people to pursue personal growth, but it also taught me a lot of technical skills and gave me a unique branding opportunity. This podcast has taught me so much about audio quality, audio editing, and audio production. It has taught me about marketing myself, the power of social media, and the unique opportunity of podcasting, which is a medium that has grown over 200% in the past 10 years. Additionally, it serves as a testament to my design skills and branding/identity prowess. While this is a passion project, it has given me the opportunity to explore a new interest in social media and design for web.
In the images below, you’ll first see my current branding, which was derived from my original cover art design. After testing my initial cover art and color scheme, I realized that the color scheme didn’t reflect the messaging of the podcast. So instead of bold, eye-catching design, I developed a warm-tone, muted color palette.
CURRENT BRANDING:
Here is the new color palette I developed. In the past, I didn’t have a set color palette. By setting brand parameters, I can more easily design within the brand.
I even updated my Instagram highlights and overall aesthetic. Here is a recent screenshot of my profile & my current feed (updated every time I post!).
OLD BRANDING (aka I had a logo, not a brand):

Overall, I’ve really enjoyed podcasting because it helps me feel like I’m able to inspire others, and it also is a cool opportunity to develop an identity for a real, living brand! How entrepreneurial of me, I know. I’m excited to see where the podcast takes me, and I look forward to using this podcast as a way to show my capabilities as a designer, marketer, and social media manager.
